聽神談【以「價值的探索」為主軸的教育新趨勢】
要孩子們「記住真相」的目的是請他們「重新創造過去」(to memorize facts is asking them to re-create the past),但那需要孩子們先去探索一些觀念和想法 ─── 如公正、寬容、平等及誠實 ─── 並邀請他們去創造一個新的未來。
你們的社會很少有地方鼓勵新思維。既使對成人都如此,更別說對孩子了。
從新靈性(New Spirituality)浮現的「新的教育方式」將和你們以往習慣的教育方式大相逕庭。
它將靈性(spirituality 即精神性)拉入所有的研究領域裡,以「價值的探索」(values exploration)覆蓋每一個議題。因此,孩子從他們人生的早期,就覺知到一個人最基本、神聖的信念,與他的日常行為是沒有分離的,而且整個社會皆是如此。
在孩子們經驗裡的每件事情───每一樣事物───在其核心,都會因其前因後果的進展,轉化成一種靈性經驗。藉由沉浸在這樣一種意識脈絡裡,學生們將學會使用這些「靈性工具」去解決人生問題,和迎接生命的挑戰。

Asking children to memorize facts is asking them to re-create the past, but that inviting children to explore concepts and ideas—such as fairness, tolerance, equality, and honesty—invites them to create a new future, for their ideas may be different from yours.
In very few places does your society encourage new thinking. Not even with adults, to say nothing of children.
The New Spirituality will deviate from the beaten path.
It will start by drawing spirituality into all other fields of study, submerging every subject matter in values exploration, so that the child is aware from the earliest days of her life that there is no disconnection between a person’s most fundamental, sacred beliefs and a person’s daily behaviors— and that the same is true for all of society.
Everything—everything—in the child’s experience will be contextualized as a spiritual experience at its core. By being immersed in such a context, the student will learn to use spiritual tools to solve life’s problems and to meet life’s challenges.
